About

Who am I?

I’m Abbie Rutherford. I am an editor, proofreader and book formatter based in the North East of England. I provide editorial and publishing support to a number of publishers and independent authors on a freelance basis.

I am, and always have been, an avid reader. My reading tastes are eclectic, but I really love psychological suspense. I have been known to indulge in some Lego building, and enjoy spending time with my Pembroke Welsh corgi.

I have a Master's degree with distinction in English, and I'm a Professional Member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP).

 My qualifications

My editorial qualifications include:

  • CIEP Copyediting 1
  • CIEP Copyediting 2: Merit
  • PTC Creative Copywriting for Publishers: Distinction
  • CIEP Editorial Project Management
  • Liminal Pages Developmental Editing: Fiction Theory
  • Liminal Pages Developmental Editing: In Practice
  • PTC Essential Proofreading

 My experience

I have extensive experience within the publishing industry.

I copyedit commercial fiction, and proofread fiction and non-fiction for a number of publishers and independent authors. Clients include Bloodhound Books, Duckworth Books, Hobeck Books, and Palazzo Editions

I have also advised on submissions for a leading independent publisher, and commissioned a number of successful novels.

From February to September 2023, I worked as the editorial and production manager for Bloodhound Books to cover maternity leave. This involved me planning the editorial schedule, ensuring it ran smoothly, and formatting e-books and print-on-demand paperbacks ready for publication.

'I would highly recommend Abbie Editorial. Her work on both full-length novels and short stories is thorough, detailed and always done with care and thought. She is very responsive, easy to communicate with as well as great at hitting her deadlines. A pleasure to work with.'
